Eco-Destinations
At first glance, Sarasota's treasures are its art galleries,
sophisticated shopping and dining, barrier islands and beaches.
But nestled amid the city's urbane jewels, in waterways and
protected lands, is an astounding natural diversity of dolphins,
manatees, fish and birds, and the environment that supports
them. From Selby Gardens to Mote Marine Aquarium, these
attractions allow vacationers and locals alike to experience
Southwest Florida's varied ecosystems without ever leaving the
county.

Greenways and Trails
From the dynamic Legacy Trail converted from a former railway
line to the meandering Myakka River designated by the State
legislature as a Florida Wild and Scenic River,
Sarasota County offers a diverse array of greenways, blueways
and trails. These offer a great way to enjoy the fresh air while
experiencing the beauty of our community first hand at a more
relaxed pace. Blueway trails are a fantastic way to canoe or
kayak our waterways while the hiking and multi-use trails are an

Canopy Roads
Canopy Roads are county-owned and maintained streets where
preservation and maintenance of oaks and other species will
maintain their historic, aesthetic, economic, cultural and
environmental value. They help enhance streetscape aesthetics,
provide shade, increase property values, protect the
environment, reduce air pollution, and protect against soil
erosion, flooding and wind damage.
