Sarasota County Waterways Program
Waterways Program
The waterways program focuses on maintenance dredging of navigable waterways to improve navigation and boater safety, also for channel realignment and environmental enhancement. An important difference from public dredging projects is this program addresses citizen-initiated dredging of canals and other established navigable waterways between waterfront properties and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Sarasota County government provides funding for the projects. The costs are paid back by the owners of properties that benefit from the project.

Project assessments are tied to the property, not the property owner. Sellers should disclose to potential buyers any existing or foreseeable dredge projects and the related assessment obligations of the property owner.
