Project Update –
October 2009
County staff
and the project consultant (DMK Associates) presented
the
feasibility report, project design and cost estimates to
property owners at a meeting in January 2005. The required
number of petitions needed for the project to proceed was
received by the county in April 2006. The project was authorized
by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in March
2008.
In March of
2008, the Sarasota County Commission instructed staff to
complete one maintenance dredge construction project at a time.
Therefore, projects have been prioritized based on the age of
the project. Construction of the first project is anticipated to
begin in the fall of 2009. The second construction project has
been advertised and bids will be opened on October 14, 2009.
At a public
hearing in February 2009, the commission instructed staff that
the construction projects can be completed at a pace dictated by
staff. The Neptune project is fifth
on the list and at this time staff does not have an anticipated
start date. |
