and other similar special wastes require prior approval for

Yard Waste
Disposal
- Using bags
is discouraged as they require additional handling to remove
contents prior to processing. Adequate storage containers
may be purchased at various stores and garden centers.
Containers should not be filled beyond 40 lbs. in weight
- Remove all
fruit from tree branches and dispose of the fruit in the
garbage
- Residents
are encouraged to
compost and use mulching mowers
Free Mulch
- Sarasota
County residents may pick up compost and mulch for HOME USE
at several locations (please see mulch/compost heading for
locations)
- Mulch is
in limited supply and subject to availability
Citizens'
Convenience Center
- Located at
the Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex, 4000
Knights Trail Road, Nokomis, FL 34275
- Household
hazardous waste, electronics and recyclables may be dropped
off at no charge
- Hours of
Operation: Monday – Saturday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Storm Debris
Storm debris
must be properly prepared for collection at the curb. If you are
unable or unwilling to properly prepare these materials, you may
bring them to the landfill. Established landfill fees will be
charged for all debris brought into the landfill.
Separate
storm debris into the following categories, if you are bringing
it to the landfill:
- Garbage:
place spoiled food in containers or double bag it for pickup
- Household
goods: furniture, clothes, books, toys, and carpet

Vegetation: tree limbs and trunks

Construction material: drywall, roof shingles, aluminum
