Sarasota County recognizes that
trees provide numerous benefits, including the following:
- Trees provide substantial
economic benefits through the increase in public and private
property values, performance and longevity of manmade
infrastructure, and as natural systems in stormwater control
and management.
- Trees provide a portfolio of
social benefits, including enhanced public health and
safety, improved socialization and child activity, and the
creation of walkable, livable and sustainable communities.
- Trees provide environmental
benefits including improved air and water quality, reduced
erosion and sedimentation, enhanced coastal ecosystems, and
the promotion of biodiversity.
As such, Sarasota County
recognizes that trees are not only desirable, but are essential
to the present and future health, safety and welfare of the
community.
Sarasota County has adopted a Trees Ordinance that provides
standards for tree removal and planting on public and private
lands, grand trees, and canopy roads to ensure that our tree
resources and their associated benefits can be enjoyed by future
generations. For more information on the County’s Trees
Ordinance, please see the below links or contact the Natural
Resources Department at (941) 861-5000.
