Safety
Sarasota County is dedicated to bringing
customers high quality drinking water. All water is treated to
keep it safe. County staff routinely monitors for contaminants.Reliability
Central drinking water is always available. In
the event of major storms, we can still provide water to our
customers even if homes do not have electricity. Sarasota County
is connected to neighboring utilities, including the Peace River
Authority, Manatee County and the cities of Sarasota and Venice.
In emergencies we provide water to others and they, in turn, do
the same for us if needed.
Sarasota County has plans for supplying water
for future needs, works with others regionally to reduce
competition for water resources and works to balance the needs
of people and the environment
Increased Property Value
Having central water makes a property
attractive to potential buyers and can increase property values.
Wells are Not Cost-free
- Wells eventually have to be replaced and
the cost of a replacement well can be $6,000 or more.
- Well water often needs some treatment to
make it suitable for home use. The cost of salt for softening, or even
the cost of buying bottled water for cooking and drinking,
can add up quickly
Outdoor Irrigation
Your well can be turned into a source of
irrigation for your landscape after the connection is severed
between the well and your house.
Contact the Florida Department of Health at
941-861-5000 and ask for information on converting drinking
water wells to irrigation wells. You must have a backflow device
installed. |
