Sarasota County has partnered
with several agencies and organizations to produce the "Boating
and Angling Guide to Sarasota County." The guide contains
information about our waterways and specifically highlights the
natural features and recreational opportunities associated with
the waters in this region.
The guide depicts the waterway
area from Terra Ceia Bay in Manatee County to the Charlotte
County line in Lemon Bay.
Information depicted for these
areas includes environmental features, artificial reef
locations, bridges, speed zones, parks and anchorages, as well
as other amenities.
The guide is currently available
at the County Administration Building and some other county
offices. It will be available at Parks and Recreation locations,
at county libraries and through the Sarasota Convention and
Visitors Bureau. In addition, it will be available on the
Water Atlas site.
The "Boating and Angling Guide"
is part of a series of guides being produced throughout the
State, developed primarily with outside funding.
- Primary sponsorship of the
guide’s production was through funding from Sports Fish
Restoration, Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Coastal Management
Program, United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Florida
Wildlife Research Institute.
- Sarasota County provided
in-kind services and paid for printing costs.
- Additional sponsorship was
provided by the Sarasota Convention and Visitors Bureau
which contributed funds to cover printing costs. Sarasota
Bay Estuary Program and Sarasota Audubon Society sponsored
the guide through sharing key information collected by their
organizations and providing it to the county at no cost.
