Air Quality
Demolition and Asbestos Inspection/Regulation
Sarasota County Air Quality regulates asbestos throughout the county and its municipalities.

County Code 54-119(c) 1 incorporates federal and state rules requiring a Notice of Asbestos Renovation Or Demolition form received in the Air Quality office 10 working days prior to demolition.

Regulated asbestos renovations include all commercial and public facilities, including, but not limited to, a private residence in a dwelling of more than four units, a private residence that was ever used as commercial.

An asbestos survey is required prior to renovation or demolition.

Resource Protection inspects building demolition and renovation projects that may have asbestos containing material. If a project involves any demolition or renovation, rules governing the removal of asbestos containing material are followed.

An Asbestos Survey or an Asbestos Project Notification may apply to all demolitions and renovations except single family homes or buildings having four or fewer units that do not involve past commercial use.

These survey notifications are required by federal and state laws and are required to be conducted by a licensed asbestos consultant prior to conducting any demolition or renovation.

If asbestos is being deposited in the Sarasota County Landfill, a Waste Shipment Record (WSR) must accompany the load. See form within the RP FDEP Notice of Asbestos Renovation or Demolition.
