The Sarasota County Fire
Department is a “World Class” Fire Department that provides many
services other than just Fire Suppression
and Emergency Medical
Services. Our Fire Department received both National and State
recognition and awards for many of its programs. We have been
featured in the Journal of Emergency Medical Services Magazine (JEMS)
on two occasions, as well as, other publications.
We employ over 465 personnel, and since 2006 we have opened
three (3) Fire Stations with plans on opening at least three (3)
more within the next five (5) years. Our total budget for FY08
is $74,834,313. Our funding comes from both non-ad valorem fire
assessments and our own ad valorem EMS tax. We also have both
Fire and EMS Impact fees that are used for the purchase of
capital items and construction of Fire Stations.
We operate twenty-six (26) Fire Stations that are strategically
located throughout Sarasota County. Our Fire fleet consists of
Emergency One apparatus. The oldest engine is less than eight
(8) years old. In 2006 we completely replaced all thirty-two
(32) of our ambulances with American LaFrance Medic Masters.
In 2006 this department responded to 45,672 fire and medical
emergencies. All of our personnel are highly motivated and
dedicated in providing superior customer service to the citizens
of Sarasota County. We have an outstanding Training Division
that provides all of our training needs to maintain our
certifications with actual hands-on drills.
Please take the time to read the information and become a member
of our Team!
Sincerely,
Brian Gorski
Fire Chief
