Volunteer Sarasota
Sarasota County appreciates the
generosity and service of its active volunteer community. There
were 4,500 volunteers actively engaged in government affiliated
service activities during 2006. An additional 5500 residents,
families, young professionals and teens donated their efforts
and energies to special one time events at our beaches,
environmental projects, libraries and parks as well. These
dedicated individuals gave approximately 240,000 hours of
service while enjoying their assignments.
Volunteer opportunities are available in neighborhoods,
environmental services, extension services, libraries, parks,
the history center and the health department.
Assignments may include the speakers
bureau, marketing, horticulture, conservation, master gardeners,
bookstores, collections and reference, archivists, monitors,
landscape clearing and maintenance, and many, many more. Keep
Sarasota Beautiful, a national environmental projects program,
also attracts many volunteers.
Specialty credentials are also
accepted within the Medical Corps, the Fire Department, the
Sheriff's Department and the Emergency Operations Center.
Orientation and safety training programs are available.
