a)
Petition-initiated amendments would be submitted to
voters at the next countywide election if the signatures are
verified at least 120 days before the election. This allows
30 days to prepare the ordinance calling for the election
and 90 days for the Supervisor of Elections to prepare for
the election. If the next countywide election is more than a
year from the date when the signatures are verified, the
petition-initiated amendment would be submitted to voters at
a special countywide election within 180 days following
signature verification.
b) Board-initiated
amendments would be submitted to the voters no sooner
than 90 days after the date that the County Commission
adopts an ordinance calling for a referendum election. This
timeframe is shorter because the ordinance calling for the
election already has been prepared.
c) Charter Review
Board amendments will be submitted to the voters at the
next countywide election. This is the current language in
the Charter. The only change is that the ordinance calling
for the special election must be filed with the Supervisor
of Elections at least 90 days before the next election to
allow sufficient time for processing.
