Real or personal property owned by Sarasota County Government that is obsolete or no longer serves a useful function is declared surplus by the Board of County Commissioners.

Declared surplus (excluding vehicles/heavy equipment/specialty vehicles) are donated to other governmental agencies and then to eligible local charitable organizations. Declared surplus not accepted by those organizations is sold to the public through an online auction website.

Vehicles/heavy equipment/specialty vehicles are sold to other governmental agencies and/or eligible local charitable organizations.Declared surplus not sold to above organizations is sold to the public through an auctioneer service and/or online auction website.
