Sarasota County has managed its
debt in a very conservative manner over the years. When compared
to other counties Sarasota County bonded debt backed by various
tax generated revenues is among the lowest. This category of
debt includes debt which pledges a specific tax revenue source
as a method of repayment of the outstanding bonds. For the
economic stimulus program the specific revenue pledge will be
the voter approved surtax revenues. With a commitment to
conservative debt management and a responsibility to being
fiscally sustainable we have maintained debt levels lower than
most of our peers.
