The Sarasota County
Commission created the Citizens’ Budget Task Force to suggest cost
savings – through efficiencies or policy changes – based on a high-level
review of the proposed FY2010 budget before its adoption on Sept. 28.
The Budget Task Force held an introductory meeting on June 15 and held
subsequent meetings in July. The Task Force may schedule
additional meetings in August to review additional information or to
prepare its report to the County Commission on Sept. 8.
The meetings are public,
were seen live on
Access TV
and streamed on this Web site.
Residents also can provide feedback about county budget priorities
through a
Web-based
budget tool on the
Community Connections Web site.
Property owners can enter their assessed property values and see the
portion of their property tax bill that pays for services such as fire,
emergency medical service, libraries and parks. Property owners can
select different levels of service for these areas and see how changing
the level of service affects their property tax bills.
Property owners also can indicate whether they want to increase,
maintain or reduce the level of funding for law enforcement, courts
and jails, and whether they would support increased property taxes or
user fees.
