Sarasota County residents gave high marks to county government
in the 2004 Citizens Opinion Survey for being responsive to
their views and concerns, for communicating its actions and
positions and for finding out what residents think about taxes
and services.
Results from the annual survey were presented May 26 to the
Board of County Commissioners by Dr. Susan MacManus of the
Department of Government & International Affairs at the
University of South Florida. The survey is conducted to obtain
information from the public about their policy preferences and
evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of county
officials’ performance. The results to guide decisions, plan
programs and improve the delivery of services. In addition to
government responsiveness, this year’s survey explored economic
development, community housing, tax proposals and quality of
life.
In conducting the survey, 801 county residents 18 years of age
or older were polled between April 28-May 14. The margin of
error is plus/minus 3.5 percent. For the complete survey results
